“I decided to study in Canada because I tried to do the express entry route to apply for PR (permanent residency) and I was told that I did not have enough points. However, I was told one of the ways that I could get points and improve my chances was through pursuing studies with a Canadian University or institution. I arrived in January 2020 from St. Lucia and started my master’s program, I graduated from York University with a Master’s in Law in February 2021. I applied for a post grad work permit which I was granted, and this allowed me to apply for jobs and begin working in Canada. I was going to go through the express entry route because my Master’s in Law boosted the points, I needed to be eligible. Canada makes sure that they keep international students who have trained or studied in Canada I will be going through the new pathway. I am excited because I know that studying in Canada has begun to open doors that I never dreamed off, including landing my dream job. “ I did not have any family in Canada, infact I had never visited Canada before I just knew I wanted to live there, so when I got accepted into Durham College I was so excited to start a new life in the country I always pictured myself living and raising a family.
